PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This historic Virginia farmhouse project started with a loosely defined program. It was predetermined that the garage would be replaced – which also meant a new mudroom, storage room, and laundry room. A recording studio and several guest bedrooms were also desired in the new program. The client also wanted to keep the materials consistent, create more privacy zones for family away from staff, and take advantage of the western views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
In conjunction with a Landscape Architect, a conceptual design was developed that utilizes the expansive site. (A conceptual site plan is forthcoming.) A third elongated gable, two additional staircases, and an underground garage ensures the new design maintains context, creates privacy zones, and provides cohesive circulation.
